Drew Duncan Weaver Obituary
San Clemente, CA - March 15, 1958 - December 31, 2024
Drew Duncan Weaver, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in Mission Viejo, California. Born on March 15, 1958, at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles to Patsy and Everett Weaver, Drew's life was marked by an unwavering passion for music and a deep love for his family and friends.
In 1971, the Weavers moved to Laguna Beach where they settled on Cliff Drive. It was here that young Drew developed his appetite for discovery about the world around him—particularly his passion for baseball. His childhood home became a treasure trove of memories filled with laughter as he amassed an impressive collection of baseball cards that once overflowed from a large trash can. This early enthusiasm laid the foundation for his lifelong appreciation of collecting—not just sports memorabilia but also music and literature.
Drew attended Thurston Middle School before graduating from Laguna Beach High School in 1976. He carried with him not only cherished friendships but also a burgeoning talent for music that would define much of his adult life. After high school graduation, he pursued further education abroad at The American College in Paris during the vibrant cultural scene of the 1980s.
Returning to Laguna Beach in the early '90s reignited Drew's creative spirit; he continued writing and performing his unique brand of music while nurturing relationships formed during his youth within this tight-knit community. Known for his warm smile, genuine kindness and signature wit, Drew left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As a prolific songwriter, recording artist, performer, and musicologist, Drew was uniquely gifted and worthy of recognition in the pantheon of great American musicians. He had an insatiable curiosity about music from all time periods and genres, and he brought that kaleidoscope of influences into everything he wrote and sang. He was unfailingly generous with his knowledge, always eager to share and collaborate. Wherever life took him—including tours of France, the UK, and Benelux—Drew always found kindred spirits who fed his musical appetite while also absorbing everything he brought to the table. He left a deep musical legacy that encompasses more than a dozen albums, including collaborations with Grammy Award winners The Mavericks and Peabody Award winner Rosie Flores.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease later in life—a challenge that could have silenced many—Drew remained undeterred. His resilience shone brightly as he continued to write songs and record albums well into his later years; each note resonating with authenticity born from personal experience.
He is survived by his wife Carol and their daughter Kaila who brought immeasurable joy into his life.
Additionally mourning are brothers Lance (LBHS '72) and Todd (LBHS '78), along with several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their Uncle Drew's legacy.
As we remember Drew Duncan Weaver today—a man whose heartbeat strongly through every chord struck—we celebrate not only what he accomplished but how profoundly loved he was by all fortunate enough to cross paths with him throughout this beautiful life.
